Decision for eternal
hello koinonians,
Just wanna share something that i have learnt from my client when i was having attachment this yr. :)
I was attached to a "job agency" for the people with disabilities this march and there was a special client of mine. He is 21 YO this yr and he is the only Christian in his family. He has a rare degenerative medical condition ( congential progressive dystonia) which affects his control over his muscles ( there is alot of involuntary movements such that his walking and speech is affected) and was only diagnosed when he was in NS. When i first met him, he was not able to travel about very much independently and could only rely on his father's car or by taxi. Even as i watched him walking along short distances, i had to be on stand by mode, fearing that he might fall any time.
In addition, he was neither working (that's why he's there) nor schooling upon completion of his NS. From the session that i had with him, i found out that he has interest in graphic design however he does not have any qualifications to such vocation. As i further asked if he would like to further studies or looked into other jobs, he was uncertain... he just smiled and shrugged his shoulders. As we brainstorm on the various possible jobs he can handle such as Data entry, typing, etc..., he was also not very decisive or clear of what he would want... Thus, i carried on with other assessments and tests on him to better determine his abilities..
At the end of the session, i went to talk to his mother who was waiting patiently for a couple of hours for his son. And you know what surprised me?? His mother (not a Christian) said that client is going for water baptisim after he turns 21(somewhere this september). She said in mandarin, " my son says ar ' Mummy Mummy you don't stop me ok... i want to go water baptism after 21'."
So what was so special about this??
I learnt from him that even though his future is so uncertian, when will his condition get worse, will he ever get a job and be more financially independent , whether or not his employer will accept him, all these he may not know or have answers to them. But one thing for sure is that he has already decided to follow Jesus and that he already knows that he has a place in heaven which is more precious that anything else on this earth. Although he is unsure on what will he be in the future, he knows that God will supply all his needs...
During my last week of attachment, i heard from my supervisor that he is now at SPD (Society for the physically disabled) where he is learning graphic designing from other peers and there is transportation provided for him as well. He is very happy there. I wish him all the best!!
